National Human Rights Council hands archives of Independent Arbitration Commission over to national archives institution

On Monday, July 24, 2017, Morocco's National Human Rights Institution handed the archives of the Independent Arbitration Commission for the Compensation for Victims of Enforced Disappearance and Arbitrary Detention (that was established in 1999) over to Archives of Morocco.

On the sidelines of the ceremony, the organizers also held a roundtable discussion on the outcome of the Commission, attended by the members of the commission, ministers, high-ranking officials, parliamentarians, academicians, civil society groups and the media.

In his statement, CNDH Chairman Mr. Driss El Yazami stressed the importance of the moment. "We are gathering today to celebrate another important step in the transitional justice process that our country started with rigor and determination 10 years ago". He said

We hope this will help young Moroccan researchers deepen their knowledge and understanding and help them in their mission to write the recent history of Morocco, he added. After collective memory here comes the time of history which cannot be written without archives, he concluded.
