Tribute to late Odette Du Puigaudeau: a Breton in love with the desert
The National Human Rights Council (CNDH) and the Center for Saharan Studies (CES) organize a tribute ceremony to Odette Du Puigaudeau on 19 July 2018 at the Bibliothèque Nationale du Royaume du Maroc (BNRM), Rabat at 5 pm.
The late Odette Du Puigaudeau was born in Saint-Nazaire in Brittany, France on 20 July 1894. Gifted artist and tireless adventurer, she rode dromedary and walked around Moroccan and Mauritanian desert since 1933. Based on her excursions, she left an exceptional bibliography, rich in materials on Beydane culture. She died on 19 July 1991 in Rabat, Morocco.
Her remarkable bibliography includes travel stories, Beydane culture history, articles, testimonies and several novels inspired by her experience in Sahara.
Mr. Mohamed Cheikh Biadillah, Member of Parliament and former Speaker of the Moroccan House of Councillors, Mr. Brahim Boutaleb, historian and professor emeritus at Mohammed V University in Rabat and Mr. Hassan Kamil, anthropologist and professor at the Cadi Ayyad University of Marrakech and Mr. Rahal Boubrik, anthropologist, will take part in this ceremony.
