CNDH calls on government to speed up implementation of cultural rights
The National Human Rights Council (CNDH) called on the government to speed up the implementation process of constitutional cultural rights. This includes the officialization of the Amazigh language and the establishment of the national center for Moroccan culture and languages, provided for in the Constitution
In his Statement, CNDH secretary General, Mr. Mohamed Essabbar, highlighted the importance of including cultural and linguistic diversity in the education and training curricula. He was speaking at the Interactive Dialogue with the UN Special Rapporteur on Cultural Rights, held on the 12 of March 2014, within the framework of the 25th UN Human Rights Council (Geneva, 3 to 28 March 2014).
Mr. Essabbar shed light on the National Human Rights Council’s contribution to implementing cultural rights in Morocco. The Council’s efforts, in this regard, includes supporting projects for memory, history and archive, holding seminars on rehabilitation of memory centers and protection of rock-art sites, launching projects for regional museums and a House for Moroccan History, launching university master and PhD courses on contemporary history, supporting cultural rights capacity building and awareness-raising activities, supporting and organizing initiatives and seminars on the Sahraoui-Hassani culture, etc.
