Grandmothers of the Plaza de Mayo visit CNDH to learn about transitional justice in Morocco
A delegation of the Grandmothers of the Plaza de Mayo, led by the head of the organization Estela de Carlotto, visited Morocco from 23-26 June 2016 to learn in depth about transitional justice in Morocco and exchange about the role of the national human rights institution and NGOs in the protection and promotion of human rights.
The delegation was also interested in the great strides made towards the better promotion and protection of human rights and the related challenges. In addition to the CNDH President and Secretary General, the delegation also met with senior officials and board members of the institution. They visited sites of collective memory and met with several national associations, including the Moroccan Forum for Truth and reconciliation, Casa Mémoire (collective memory), the Medical Association for the Rehabilitation of Torture Victims, etc.
The Grandmothers of the Plaza de Mayo (Asociación Civil Abuelas de Plaza de Mayo), an Argentine campaign group, is a human rights organization that has struggled for truth and justice in Argentina since 1977. It was formed to reunite families with their missing children; kidnapped and illegally adopted during the Argentine years of grave human rights violations (some of them were born to mothers in prison and later disappeared).
