Mr. Mohamed Ayat, elected member of the United Nations Committee on Forced Disappearances
Mr. Mohamed Ayat, a member of the National Human Rights Council of Morocco (CNDH), was elected a member of the UN Committee on Enforced Disappearances at the Fourth Meeting of States Parties to the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance, held on Tuesday 20 June 2017 in New York.
He was nominated by the Kingdom of Morocco, as a State party to the Convention.
Mr. Mohamed Ayat is a legal advisor to the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC). He holds a PhD in law from the University of Toulouse (France). He has been the Independent Expert on the situation of human rights in Côte d’Ivoire. He was elected as a member of the United Nations Human Rights Committee from September 2008 to August 2009 and a legal advisor to the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (1997-2012). He contributed to the drafting of Model Transitional Criminal Justice Codes sponsored by the United Nations. He has several contributions in the field of criminal law and criminology.
The Committee on Enforced Disappearances is a body of ten independent experts in charge of monitoring the provisions of the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance. The Committee examines the reports of States Parties on the implementation of the Convention.
