Trainings in Rabat on “Sexual and reproductive health and rights” and “AIDS and human rights”

Initiated by the Moroccan Family Planning Association (AMPF) and the National Human Rights Council (CNDH), the training session on sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) was held on 18 and 19 July 2017 in Rabat, Morocco.

The purpose of this event was to enable participants to assimilate SRHR. The proceedings culminated with the adoption of the outline of an action plan on cooperation among the Regional Human Rights Commissions (CRDHs) and the AMPF in order to promote the SRHR at the regional level. Twenty human rights officers from the CNDH and the CRDHs benefited from this training session.

This training session was an opportunity to tackle international treaties related to SRHR and focused on themes such as “health, maternal, neonatal and infant-juvenile morbidity and mortality”, “protection and promotion of the rights of women and children”, and “sexual violence against women and children and underage marriage”.

On 13 and 14 July 2017, the CNDH’s National Human Rights Training Institute- Driss Benzekri (INFDH) hosted a training workshop on HIV/AIDS and human rights for representatives of the Moroccan Ministry of Health, NGOs/partners working to fight against AIDS and the staff of the CNDH and its CRDHs.

Organized by the Epidemiology and Disease Control Department (Department within the Ministry of Health), in collaboration with the CNDH, and with the support of the Global Fund and UNAIDS, this workshop aimed to strengthen the capacity of the participants to promote and defend human rights related to HIV/AIDS. It specifically, intended that the participants acquire the skills to integrate this component into the provision of a combined prevention service.

This training session was an opportunity to present the National Human Rights and HIV Strategy and highlight the relationship between human rights and HIV. In addition, the participants exchanged on different approaches to counter stigmatisation and discrimination related to HIV.

During this event, the working groups tackled the application of human rights to groups of people vulnerable to HIV (PLHIV) and the identification of situations of discriminations against these people.
