A delegation from the Mauritanian National Commission on Human Rights in the CCDH

A delegation from the Mauritanian National Commission on Human Rights (CNDH) paid a 10-day visit to the Advisory Council on Human Rights (CCDH) starting from April 21, 2008.

The delegation, which is composed of five members headed by Mr. Ould Mohamed Said Hamody, President of the CNDH, aims to share the Moroccan experience in transitional justice and strengthen the bonds of cooperation between the CCDH and the CNDH.

During its programme, the delegation has held several meetings with CCDH members and former commissioners of the Equity and Reconciliation Commission (IER). During these meetings, the delegation was able to know in depth the various programmes undertaken by the IER (Investigations, reparation, public and thematic hearings, recommendations and the IER Final Report ...), and by the CCDH within the scope of following up the IER recommendations or other programs related to its mission as a national institution for the promotion and protection of human rights (Citizen Platform for the Promotion of Human Rights, Charter of Citizenship, Drawing up the National Action Plan in Democracy and Human Rights ...).

The delegation which met NGOs, other national institutions concerned with the human rights issue, as well as Moroccan academics, will be received at a final meeting by Mr Ahmed Herzenni, CCDH President, on April 30, 2008 at 10:00 am at the CCDH headquarters.

it is worth mentioning that Mauritania is in the process of initiating a debate on the establishment of a truth commission on violations of human rights perpetrated in the past.
