An awareness-raising meeting on International Humanitarian Law

Within the scope of the efforts deployed by the Kingdom of Morocco to promote and disseminate the principles of the International Humanitarian Law, and in collaboration with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the Ministry of Justice and the Advisory Council on Human Rights (CCDH) organize a two-day awareness raising meeting on the Importance of the International Humanitarian Law, on May 20-21, 2008.

The meeting, which will see the participation of 60 representatives of human rights civil society associations, revolves around defining the International Humanitarian Law and identifying the actors, mechanisms and apparatus who are capable of protecting it, in relation to the activities of the International Committee of the Red Cross, the Red Crescent associations and the international penal justice. Also, the prospects of this law and the challenges facing its implementation nowadays will be addressed.

The organization of this event is an outstanding step in examining the ways to promote the culture of this law within the civil society associations, which will, undoubtedly, contributes to upholding and disseminating the principles of the International Humanitarian Law.
