A delegation from the Advisory Council on Human Rights (CCDH) headed yesterday for Geneva to observe the submission of the National Report within the scope of the Universal Periodic Review(UPR).

The delegation, composed of Mr Mahjoub El Haiba, CCDH Secretary General, Messrs Ahmed Boukouss and Driss Ajbali, CCDH members, and Mr Hamid Benhadou, executive at the CCDH External Relations Unity, will attend the proceedings of the Human Rights Council’s UPR working group, which will be held on April 7-18, 2008.

The UPR first session will revolve around the submission of reports of 16 countries, including Morocco, Algeria, Argentina, Bahrain, Brazil, the Czech Republic, Ecuador, Finland, India, Indonesia, Holland, Philippine, Poland, South Africa, Tunisia and the United Kingdom.

It is worth mentioning that the UPR, which should examine the state of 48 each year, is a new mechanism adopted by the HRC General Assembly by virtue of resolution 60/251 of March 15, 2006.

The UPR working group will hold two other sessions on May 5-6, 2008 and from December 1 to 12, 2008.

The national report submited by Morocco.
