CNDH Chairman meets President of UN Human Rights Council, at the Council in Rabat
President of the National Human Rights Council (CNDH) Driss El Yazami met on Tuesday, October 20, 2015, at the CNDH offices in Rabat, with Joachim Rücker, President of the United Nations Human Rights Council.
In addition to CNDH’s interaction with the government and parliament, the meeting focused on several human rights issues in Morocco, particularly peaceful demonstrations, freedom of the press, the right to education and efforts made by government to fight literacy, women’s rights (gender equality and parity), the fight against discrimination, etc.
Mr. Rücker learned closely about CNDH’s mandate, its main campaigns, and activities at national and regional levels, as well as its publications, advisory opinions, memoranda and studies in the area of human rights promotion and protection.
The meeting also discussed some of the major human rights challenges in Morocco, in particular, the protection and promotion of diversity, the peaceful management of dissent, the implementation of the constitution, the establishment of strong institutions, and the need for a solid legislative framework.
