Saharan oral heritage and ancestral skills: CNDH participates in the Moussem of Tan-Tan for the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity

The Al Mouggar Foundation, the Saharan Studies Center and the National Human Rights Council (CNDH) will participate in the thirteenth edition of the Moussem of Tan-Tan from 5 to 9 May 2017 under the theme “The Moussem of Tan-Tan: Cultural heritage shared between Morocco and Africa”.

For the fifth time, the CNDH will contribute promoting cultural rights including Hassani heritage in this Moussem under the theme “Saharan oral heritage and ancestral skills”. The Hassani heritage is enshrined in the new constitution as a component of Moroccan cultural expressions and authentic influences of the Moroccan identity.

The CNDH’s participation is part of its action to implement the Convention for Safeguarding Intangible Cultural Heritage adopted on 17 October 2003 and ratified by Morocco on 6 July 2006.

The Tan-Tan Moussem has been classified by UNESCO since 2008 in the list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

The CNDH has prepared a diversified cultural agenda including training workshops, plays, thematic meetings, and activities for youth. Particularly:

- Round table on the Moussem of Tan-Tan and the UNESCO Convention,

- Documentary film on the cultural and natural heritage of Aousserd region,

- Presentation and signing of two books on Arts et coutumes des maures “Arts and customs of the Moors” and Glossaire environnemental hassani “Hassani environment glossary”.

At the same time, the CNDH will hold an exhibition stall to present its publications as well as those of the Center for Saharan Studies.
