Fourth CCDH Regional Section in Meknès-Tafilalet Region
The President of the Advisory Council on Human Rights (CCDH), Mr. Ahmed Herzenni chaired on May 30, 2009 in Midelt (province of Khenifra), the opening ceremony of the CCDH regional administrative section in the region of Meknès-Tafilalet.The objective of the CCDH through the creation of this section, the fourth of its kind after those of Laâyoune, Oujda and Agadir, is to strengthen its action at the local level, promote the culture of human rights, support the regionalization and decentralization and monitor cases of human rights on the basis of an outreach politicy.
Speaking on this occasion, Mr. Said Chbaatou, Chairman of the Regional Council of the Meknès-Tafilalet region, highlighted the efforts of the CCDH to enhance national reconciliation, entrench the confidence in Morocco and its future, by implementing the recommendations of the Equity and Reconciliation Commission (IER) through participatory approaches in collaboration with local and national actors, especially on the community reparation program. Mr. Chbaatou deemed opening a CCDH section in Midelt was a courageous step within the framework of the appropriate institutional set-up for the CCDH for the implementation of its programs.
The opening ceremony was also attended by the Wali of the Meknès-Tafilalet region, Mohamed Faouzi, the governor of the province of Khenifra, Mr. Ou Ali Hajir, representatives of local authorities, human rights and local civil society activists.
